Images & Graphics

Artwork and other uses

This application is intended for all aspects of the apparel decoration, therefore images are essential objects for the apparel decoration.

When we introduced our first digitizing software for embroidery many years ago, images were not part of it. In fact, the drawings of the design to be created had to be made on paper (6:1 scale), which was placed on a large digitizing tablet. The designer had to use that drawing as a reference and mark (digitize) the geometry of the design on the tablet, while the work in progress could be seen on the computer monitor.

Currently, the process of manual digitizing (classic) is not so different, except that the design drawing doesn't need to be made on paper; but it is a reference image that is displayed as the background of the working area. This reference image is what we call here Artwork.

Images can be used as the reference to create designs of any decoration specialty. In this case the image is not part of the final designs. Sometime the image is only used as the background of the workspace where the design is created. Sometimes the image is converted to objects through any automatic digitizing mode. We use the name "Artwork" to refer to the image used as the reference to create a new design.

At present, the images can also be used for other purposes too. For example, as this software supports multi-decoration (different kind of apparel decoration specialties), raster images (bitmaps) can be interpreted as screen-printing and vector images can be interpreted as designs for cutters & transfers.

Images can be used as part of the design, for printing decoration type (both raster and vector images) or cutting/transfer decoration type (only vector images). For this purpose, this application can export to different graphic file formats.

Users must specify what the purpose of each image is when it is inserted into the design document (or later). In this way, the user can hide the artwork (reference image) while keeping the images that are part of the design (screen-printing, cutting work).

This application can import and export both raster image files and vector image files.
